Privacy Policy
Swipedle is a word game run by Swipedle. This page explains what information the game keeps, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We keep it to what the game needs, and we do not sell your data.
What we collect today
- An anonymous player ID. The first time you visit, the game stores a random ID in a cookie called
swipedle_pid. It is not linked to your name or email, and it lasts up to two years. - Your game history, saved against that ID on our server: the puzzles you have opened, your guesses, hints used, hearts left, results, and how long a daily puzzle took. This is how the game remembers your progress, and why you can close the page and come back.
- Standard technical logs. Our hosting provider records the usual request details (such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested) to keep the service running and secure.
- On your device, the game keeps a setting for whether sound is muted.
We do not currently ask for your name or email, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
The cookie
swipedle_pid is strictly necessary: without it the game cannot tell which puzzles are yours. It is only used to run the game. If you clear it, the game starts you again as a new player and your earlier progress can no longer be reached from that browser.
When purchases and accounts launch
Some content (Endless, the Archive and themed packs) will be sold as one-time purchases. When that goes live we will also handle:
- Your email address, used to send receipts and to restore a purchase if you switch device or clear your browser.
- Order records (what you bought, when, and the payment reference). Payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
We will update this page before that happens.
Who else handles your data
We use a small number of service providers to run the game. They process data only on our behalf.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Neon hosts the database that stores game history.
- Stripe will process payments (once purchases launch).
- An email service will send receipts and sign-in links (once purchases launch).
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, where those providers operate. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Game history is kept while the game is running so your progress and archive stay available. Order records are kept as long as the law requires for accounting. Technical logs are kept by the host for a short period.
Your choices and rights
You can clear the cookie in your browser at any time. You can ask us to see, correct or delete the data tied to you, or to stop using it. Because the player ID is anonymous, we may ask you to help us identify it (for example, by the email used for a purchase). Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have further rights, which we will honour. Write to support@swipedle.com.
Children
Swipedle is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant we will make that clear in the game.
